چکیده

‘Global Projects’ and Virtual Teams’ are revolutionizing the construction industry. An increasing number of multi-national engineering firms adopting this business model due to possible advantages cost time optimization. However, literature identifies several challenges that project teams endure in temporarily organizing while transitioning through space, some which include cross-cultural differences limited richness communication media. Perceiving virtual execution as a multi-variable construct, organizational theorists sociologists adopt socio-technical approach understand dynamics action embedded process recommend implementation pre-process, during or post intervention strategies enable performance. In paper, we address research concern an experimental study conducted across two global universities, National Institute Construction Management Research, Pune, India Washington State University, USA. Around 24 students from each university ten collaborated virtually for period 2.5 weeks develop 3-dimensional Revit 4-dimensional BIM Autodesk Navisworks, respectively, multi-storey residential building. The aimed investigate role coordinating projects tasks taking approach, explored Execution Plan pre-process strategy. Data collected qualitative survey experiment was qualitatively analyzed using ethnographic coding techniques. Findings showed team primarily stemmed coordination issues institutional differences. Members significantly mitigated proactive priori planning. allowed members instantly get involved with plan apart being able foresee complexity. Teams emphasized importance implementing detailed planning phase collaborative successful outcome further observed strategy such needed impetus collaborate coordinate tasks.

Individual Trust Development in Business Virtual Teams: An Experimental Study

This paper presents a longitudinal study of individual trust development in virtual collaboration in China. We review the concept of trust, trust factors, and examine the development of individual trust and explore why individual trust changes over time. Risk, benefit, and interest are main trust factors that influence the development of individual trust. Survey data were collected at three poi...

A Theoretical Knowledge Creation Process in Virtual Teams: A Socio- Technical Perspective

Virtual teams have made such an impact on many organizational phenomena, particularly knowledge management. Based on socio-technical perspective, this paper suggests that trust and IT are the underlying foundation of knowledge creation in virtual teams. Based on such foundation, this paper proposes a theoretical model of knowledge creation process in virtual teams called Adaptive Social-Externa...

Shared Leadership in Collaboration Technology Supported Virtual Teams: An Experimental Study on Distributed Design Teams

The purpose of this research is to examine whether outcome controls of group work (i.e. time pressure and reward), trust, and motivation affect shared leadership in virtual teams. In addition, we explore the relationship between shared leadership and information sharing effectiveness in these teams. Results of a laboratory experiment on collaboration technology-based virtual teams indicate that...

Habits In virtual Teams: An Exploratory Study

Despite the differences between virtual and collocated teams, empirical studies have identified a number of challenges that virtual teams experience. We argue, in this work-in-progress study, that habits constitute a good explanatory factor for understanding behaviour in the virtual team environment. In this study, we analyse ‘offline’ habits in the cases of student-based global virtual teams a...
